Rather like wolves, the green wood hoopoe of sub-Saharan Africa live in close-knit groups that are headed by a dominant pair. When neighbouring groups meet, they engage in a distinctive “flag-waving” display. One or two birds from each group wave a piece of bark in the air, while the other birds in each group gather close together, rocking their bodies and calling.

Comme les loups, les Irrisors moqueurs d'Afrique sub-saharienne vivent en groupes compacts qui sont menés par une pair dominante. Quand des groupes voisins se rencontrent, ils engagent une sorte de "déploiement de drapeau". Un ou deux oiseaux de chaque groupe agitent un morceau d'écorce en l'air, tandis que d'autres oiseaux de chacun des groupes se rapprochent les uns des autres, en se bousculant et criant.
