Note the toes of small chicks hanging under the wings of an adult, allowing the latter to offer protection and transportation. Adult jacanas can dive and the chicks can hide beneath the floating leaves at any alarm. This Jacana species is polyandrous and only the males incubate the egg. The nests are made on floating lily leaves; if they are damaged, the eggs are tucked under the parent's chin, or pushed floating across the water, and transferred to another nest.
