The African Penguin, also named Jackass Penguin, was one of the many bird species originally described by Linnaeus in 1758 in his Systema Naturae. The African Penguin is a banded penguin, placed in the genus Spheniscus, like the Galapagos, Humboldt and Magellan Penguins. African Penguins normally swim within 20 km of the shore. A penguin may consume up to 540 grams of prey every day.
